This morning before I left for work I called my elected representatives in Congress to tell them how I felt about health care reform. Well, 2 of 3, anyway. The phone line to Franken's district office was busy. I'll have to try him again later.
It's easy enough if you can get through: it's not like you have to argue your position, just come up with the main points you want them to check off on the tally sheet. I said something like this:
"I'm a constituent from [Minnesota | 5th District] and I would like to express my position on health care. I strongly support the President's priorities for health care reform. This is a very important issue to me; in fact, it is my most important priority. I strongly support a public option. I do not want insurance companies in charge of my access to health care."
Here's a good site for getting contact info for both Senators and Congressmen. This one includes local district offices for the senators, which not all of them do.
If I can do this, you can too (I hate making phone calls). Call them all, even if you're sure their current positions are the same as yours. They need to be able to say, "Calls to my office are running 2:1 in favor of the President's priorities," or whatever.
