Lazing on a Sunday afternoon

Rode over to Lake Harriet, a mile away, and around the lake. Weather just a little on the humid side of perfect. Some kind of impressive looking orchestra tuning up in the Harriet bandshell, but it lookd like it would be a while before they started so I rode on. Stopped at the Rose Garden to watch Stevie Ray's improv act - not quite as polished as Dudley Riggs, but good fun. On to Crema Cafe on Lyndale for an indulgent double-dip cone, eaten in their charming outside garden court. Home again, through quiet shady streets. The boulevard gardens are peaking - quite a show on every block. Sometimes I dream of living in the country, but on days like this I appreciate the city life.

How is Crema Cafe, or rather, what kind of ice cream is it? It's on my list of places to try, but we haven't gotten there yet.

Crema Café features Sonny's ice cream and sorbets and Ahana ice cream. Both are small batch, hand made, and very, very good. laurel recently said that Sonny's blood orange sorbet was "currently [her] favorite food item ever". The Ahana line is Asian themed with flavors like green tea and lemon grass.

Mmmmm. Mine too, and it's even better this year. They've added one more ingredient and are calling it some weird name that starts with a K, but it's pretty much the same. Ask for it every time you go in - maybe they'll start making it more often if people keep begging for it.

I also really love the toasted coconut flavor (which is in their ahana line and can be found in the freezers at Byerlys and elsewhere). Love the original Crema flavor, too. And love trying plenty of the more exotic flavors. Haven't tried the black pepper/cardamom one nor lots of others (yet).
