Men's figure skating wraps up with a bang

The face-off between the brooding Russian and the brooding American played out just as dramatically as it looked like it would. The Japanese provided several sub-plots, ranging from surprisingly strong performances from all 3 young skaters to the tragedy of a broken skate lace. The graceful Swiss guy in the doublet turned up in yet another Hamlet style outfit, and once again looked terrific and just missed a medal by falling again. Johnny Weir floated through in a costume that was actually pretty restrained by his standards but very striking. We agreed with the commentators that he deserved a better score than he got. He decided against the quad, but his triple axels are breathtaking. A lot of guys landed triple axel combinations, but only Johnny Weir appears to ENJOY them. All in all, a fascinating series of performances on both nights.
