Around the neighborhood
Apr. 17th, 2010 08:21 pmThere are interesting things popping up all over my south Minneapolis neighborhood this spring. Here's just a couple.
What's new in your neighborhood?
- The biggest solar panel installation in Minneapolis is 2 blocks from my house on, of all things, Mulroy's Body Shop! I learned this from the Southwest Journal, but couldn't find their article online so I'm linking to this one instead.
- A charming little community art school is opening up in the building next to Larue's at 40th and Lyndale. I walked up to the corner to mail a Netflix and stopped in to talk to the very nice woman that owns the business. Contrary to the impression given by the website, this is NOT a serious art college that you enroll in for a year or more. They are offering 1-month beginner classes in things like Cartooning and Caricature, and Classical Figure Drawing. Judging from the art on the walls, they do have at least one highly over-qualified, classically trained artist on the staff (which probably accounts for the overly pretentious name). I'd love to see the place succeed, so if you've been thinking of improving your drawing skills this might be a great opportunity.
