Voted this morning on the way to work at about 9:15. No lines, no waiting, but if I remember correctly I was #122, so there may have been a line earlier. I was actually pretty prepared this time. I voted a straight DFL ticket where that was an option and for the incumbent judges where there was a challenger. I knew exactly who I wanted to vote for on school board, having been to the City Nominating Convention (I picked Chanda Smith-Baker and T. Williams). This time I wasn't even thrown by the Soil and Water Supervisors, although I'm still puzzled why I am in both district 2 AND district 4.
Most of the candidates I voted for are shoo-ins: running without serious opposition. My school board choices may not win, but I won't be upset if they don't: all 4 of the candidates are impressively qualified and none seem to be closet creationists. I don't think that Emmer will pull it off, but I'm terrified that he will. It really says something that a lifelong Republican conservative like Horner could position himself as the "sensible middle" in this race - and be sort of telling the truth. I have to wonder if Horner might have won if we had IRV at the state level. A Horner win would be like 4 more years of Pawlenty - not something I would like to see. But if it would erase the possibility of a wingnut like Emmer taking the race, it would be worth it.
I suppose there will be no news on our state races until 8. When do the polls start closing on the east coast? I look forward to seeing Christine O'Donnell go down in flames in Delaware -- possibly be the only twinkly star in the Democratic sky tonight.
