More Japantown loot

These boxes came from the Ichiban store. The Hakoya is a little better quality than most of the Ichiban boxes - it cost a whole $6.00. By contrast, the onigiri boxes were $1.50 for the pair.

Two more Ichiban Kan purchases: a medium-sized 2-tier box by Hakoya and a couple of light-weight onigiri cases, used here to hold crackers and avocado.

How deep are those things? I can't tell from the photos.

Also, have you been through Chinatown in Winnipeg? I'm thinking you'd like it. There doesn't seem to be a centralized "Japantown" up there, but I've been to the Winnipeg/Japanese Society (If I've got the name right). My sister and Carl are members (Carl's son, Kevin teaches in the northern part of Japan To boil the facts down, I kinda-sorta have a Japanese grand nephew and niece).

Ooh, yeah, that one's a beauty! Actually, Anna the Red has an entire jaw-dropping gallery of bento lunches here.

So THAT'S what was written in the lower right corner! I just couldn't figure out what what was.

Most Japanese bento boxes are about 1-1/2" deep. This one is a little deeper than average because of the slightly domed top, but still well under 2".

I've never been in Winnipeg. Went to the Folk Festival once, but we just drove straight to the site, never ventured into the city.

I highly recommend Winnipeg, if only for the strong ethinic neighborhoods (I like my melting pot with lumps in it).

You know what I'd love to see? A bento box that looks like an old fashioned lunch box.
