Turns out anesthesiologists are not big fans of facial hair. When we met ours yesterday the first thing he said was, "How attached are you to that beard?" So last night the beard came off. I had never seen my husband without a beard. It is kind of surreal to hear his voice coming from a stranger's face.

This operation requires an IV in the side of the neck, and there were definitely whiskers in the way. They also had to get a tube down his throat, and didn't want anything making it hard to see what they were doing. There was also some muttering about facial hair trapping germs.
