Thorin and I got out to the hospital around noon today, which turned out to be perfect timing. Richard did get transferred from the ICU to a regular patient room this morning, which wore him out enough that he slept for 4 hours afterwards. When we got there he was sitting in a chair, but already getting tired and kind of grouchy. They're bringing his digestive system back online now, which can be kind of uncomfortable. He had a little breakfast and just a little chicken noodle soup and sherbet for lunch, and was complaining of gas pains. He's clearly progressing at a good rate, but he has a hard time believing it when I tell him that because the more alert he gets the more aware he is of how crappy he feels.

On the way home from the hospital Thorin and I stopped at Costco and bought a nice new recliner. Much more comfortable than the old garage sale chair, and best of all the back doesn't come loose if you move it carelessly. Thorin did most of the work of bringing it inside, and then while I was eating a late lunch he unboxed it and set it up (bless his heart). Now we have to decide what to do with the excess furniture in the living room. Well, first we have to decide which of the existing pieces is now superfluous. I'm kind of fond of that old red chair, even if the back does fall off occasionally.
