Richard is bored!
Jul. 3rd, 2011 03:13 pmStarting his 3rd day in Transitional Care, Richard is finally starting to seem more like a slightly grumpy normal sick person instead of a pathetic invalid. He's complaining about the food (as opposed to simply looking for the easiest thing to chew and swallow), channel-surfing (instead of just staring placidly at the nature slides on the soothing music channel) and wondering when he can get out of here (instead of waiting helplessly for someone to take care of him). This is all good news. He's really on the mend now. But not ready to go home, no matter what he thinks. He's now able to walk down to the common area and onto the outdoor 2nd-floor terrace, but still needs to call an aide to help him get his walker out from behind the wheelchair and hook up the little portable oxygen tank. He can carry on a conversation and read a little, but still gets sleepy after half an hour or so of doing anything. But he is making great strides.
Anyway, visitors are starting to sound good to him now. He says he still isn't ready for long visits or game playing, but I think he would like for people to stop by. In a few days I wouldn't be surprised if he was ready for gaming and larger groups.
He's at Walker Methodist, 3737 Bryant Avenue. Just stop at the front desk and they'll tell you how to find him.
