Richard is doing great. He got the little oxygen feeder tube out of his nose, and now that he doesn't have to push the walker around to lug the oxygen tank he can walk easily with a cane. He saw the physical therapist, a doctor and several levels of nurses today and they all agreed that he is looking good and almost ready to leave. He still doesn't have a discharge date, however. It's likely to be either tomorrow or Friday, since Thorin works on Thursday. I reactivated an old cell phone on T-Mobile To Go and showed him how to use it, and he is actually doing so. It's easy for him to get to the cell phone than to the phone in his room, so if you want to call him try the cell: 612-545-8093. Now would be a good time to visit.

Amber and I brought him some lunch (purchased at Gigi's, 2 blocks away). The food at Walker Methodist is mostly white bread, fried foods, starchy vegetables and canned fruit, so he was craving green vegetables. We ate out on the terrace - very nice.

We're still a little uncomfortable leaving before he gets home, but he really is doing just fine. I hope people will come and visit while we are gone. At this point we are more worried about him getting bored and trying to do too much than we are about a relapse. But with Thorin to help out, he should be okay without us now, so the vacation is on again. We're leaving for the airport in two hours (about 7pm). I hate those last couple of hours when you're just trying to figure out what you are forgetting: I get so frazzled. It occurred to me a few minutes ago that I didn't know exactly how to get from the tube station to our hotel, so I looked that up on Google maps. I should probably go around the house turning off fans and closing windows.

Oh, damn. Just when I remembered that I should bring the stack of printed email confirmations of all our lodgings and trains, I was interrupted by an earnest looking person with a clipboard at my front door, causing me to lose track of what I was doing. I have now lost that important stack of papers, including the Google maps I just printed out.

We're glad to hear that Richard appears to be coming along so well.

Have fun on your trip!
