Richard's back, I'm back, Amber's back
Jul. 19th, 2011 04:45 pmAfter 2 weeks with limited Internet access it is difficult to know how to begin to catch up.
Amber and I left on Tuesday night for our trip to England and Scotland. It went swimmingly. Kinda rainy in England, but we got sun tans in Scotland! Skye was magnificent, Edinburgh is indeed a lovely city, Loch Lomond is beautiful, and Carlisle is a surprisingly fun place to visit. I got my iPhone working in Britain, and it was everything I'd hoped it would be as an Internet portal and navigation aid. It made an excellent vacation camera too.
Richard came home from the Transitional Care Unit a few days after we left. Thorin did a great job keeping the house running, giving Richard whatever help he needed and keeping Amber and me updated with daily emails.
We flew home Saturday evening. We had minimal problems with jet lag, but the climate lag was brutal. Good lord, people, what has been going ON here? It went all the way up to 70F one day in Scotland and we thought it was hot. This is just totally unacceptable. Amber flew back to lovely, temperate San Jose yesterday and I am gratefully ensconced in my heavily air-conditioned cubicle at work. We have a few cool rooms at home thanks to a couple of battered old Kenmore window A/C units, but most of the house is pretty unappealing right now. The relatively new A/C in the attic is also churning away, but it was kind of a piece of junk at its best, and is undoubtedly overmatched by the weather. I'm afraid to even go up there.

Only one of these is good.

Date: 2011-07-19 10:37 pm (UTC)Richard got a round of applause when he and Thorin appeared at the Minn-Stf picnic. And anybody who came at all was heroic, let alone coming a few weeks after chest surgery. It was the stickiest day I can remember. I guess we all really like one another.
I loved Edinburgh, but it's been a long time since I was there. I'm glad you had a stellar trip.

Date: 2011-07-20 04:50 pm (UTC)Are you still looking for company in your air-conditioned home? Maybe we can drop by tonight and have a pot luck. I think Richard is going to try to come up with some kind of cold soup for supper.

Date: 2011-07-20 03:59 pm (UTC)The weather is all a conspiracy run by Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. They're trying to ruin Minnesota's reputation.
They've been doing pretty well with the "stupid-and-stubborn" rays with which they daily inundate our politicians. :0
