Hey, this is pretty cool. I found the old Byrd's song about D.B. Cooper that I've been trying to recall for the last week, and discovered that although I had forgotten most of the words, the tune was very close to what I remembered. It turned out to be called "Bag Full of Money."
Then I decided to listen to some songs by this band I've been reading about called "The Decembrists." I think I like them, or would if I could figure out just what their songs are about. This may be the kind of album that really needs its liner notes.
Whoa. This service just passed my personal obscurity test: they not only have "Joy of Cooking," they have one of their albums that I'd never even heard of. On the other hand, they DON'T have the older albums, including my favorite: "Too Late But Not Forgotten." But still, that's pretty good.

Hello
Nate.
Re: Hello
Well, sort of. I was thinking of D.B.Cooper because he was in the news last week, which put me in mind of the song that Reed used to sing in music circles. I didn't know it was a Byrds song and didn't consciously remember that one of the fannish bands played it. However, I was at the minnehaha's party when the song popped into my head, and I asked Steve and Fred if they knew it. Steve could only remember the chorus, but that gave me enough of the lyrics so I could look it up online. That's when I learned that it was a Byrd's song. And that it was called "Bag Full of Money." I'd still like to hear somebody play it in a music circle. It's a great song to sing along with.
So, do you use Spotify, Nate? What do you think of it?

Re: Hello
Basically, you can listen to any if the music in their extensive library for free in return for listening to the occasional ad. Very occasional. I think I got one ad in the course of listening to 20 or more songs. There's a paid version that gets rid of the ads and lets you download songs to your iPod. You can also upload music you own to the cloud, but I don't think I want to do that.

Let me know if you figure out how to do the Social thing and we can share playlists or whatever.
I'm trying to figure out how to find new music based on the Decembrists. I'm not quite sure how I did it, but I found my way to a singer/songwriter named Joshua Radin that I like a lot so far. It appears that Indie Pop/Rock has turned in the direction of the type of music I like. Wow. Maybe I can find some new music to listen to.
