Somehow this took all day, but on the plus side, patches of office and attic are cleaner than they were before. I've actually had that sound system for 4 years, so it's a little hazy what I was using before it.  I hauled an old Sanyo stereo set out of the attic, since it had speaker connectors that matched the 2 unused speakers that were still hanging on the office wall (suggesting that I have used this setup before, eh?).  It took me a while to find a cable that could be used to connect my relatively new computer to the old Red/White CD ports on the back of the stereo, but I finally did.  The correct cable seems to be a Y-splitter with one of those long gold plugs on the computer end splitting out to 2 R/W cables.  I was a little surprised to discover that the single cable somehow manages to carry both stereo channels.  It sounds surprisingly good.

So this will do for now. But if anybody has an old subwoofer with 5 speaker connections to get rid of, I might be interested.

I don't have a subwoofer. What I do have is one of those smallish stereo and speaker things that were popular 10 or more years ago. It's a CD changer and tape player and two speakers. The speakers are about 8 inches wide by a 18 inches high, at a guess. I bought them at a garage sale years ago and the whole thing has been sitting in my office. But mostly I play stuff on my computer, and I have a Logitech sound system that's sufficiently good for that.

So if this would be any use for you, you're welcome to the whole thing, or just the speakers. Otherwise, I think it's going to be Freecycle. Or the curb with a Free notice.

As a matter of fact, that is EXACTLY the setup I am back to using right now. Mine's a Sanyo. Works great. I suggest you keep yours as a backup system in case your Logitech sound system goes south.

By the way, and totally unrelated to this post, I met your friend Tricia yesterday. I was at a sheep-shearing, and was telling another person there that my other interest (besides spinning and fiber arts) was the science fiction community. And this person from across the table said "You mean Minn-stf?" And I said yes, and she said then I must know you, and I allowed as how I did.

Small world, and all that.

I love that I have two friends who run into each other at an urban sheep-shearing!
