Okay, [livejournal.com profile] mle292, I admit I was skeptical when you told me that I would get responses to a Freecycle listing for "Box of charger cables and other misc. electronics - MUST TAKE ALL." I expected a little better for the 12-year-old Motorola phone, esp. once I had the bright idea of listing it as an "Emergency car phone."

Danged if my inbox isn't filling up with responses! So far most of the phone people were looking for a T-Mobile phone (which this is not), but I have one response that didn't express a preference so she may take it. The amazing thing is that I have THREE responses to the box of old cables! THREE. The first one wants to know exactly what's in it, which is a nuisance. I have answered two questions, and that's my limit - if she doesn't come and get the dang box I'm moving on to the next respondent.

Do you think I'd have equal luck with a posting that says, "Box of absolutely worthless junk?" I'm almost tempted to try. Because what could be more worthless than a box of unidentified old phone charger cables?

I saw your post--I like the latest in the progression of user names!

Oh, you mean "cluttershark?" Thanks. :-)

I was trying to come up with something that might trigger recognition for people who know me as dreamshark without actually tying the two accounts together (because who knows what is lurking out there on Freecycle?)

I think that a two question limit is entirely reasonable. There's really not much to be said beyond "Is one of them a 120V AC to 12V DC charger?" and "Are there more than twenty potentially useless cables?" or some similar questions.

I think that "MUST TAKE ALL" already implies that there's a bunch of stuff you don't want to have to inventory.

Don't let 'em get pushy.

Glad it's working. If you had easy photo hosting not linked to an identity you don't want linked to your Freecycle post you might give them a URL pointing to a photo of the box of cables -- relatively little work, lets them at least make some guesses. Or not, I certainly sympathize with not considering it worth the effort to identify them all.

Actually, it still remains to be seen whether it REALLY works. So far I still have all the stuff. Now I'm trying to sort through the surprisingly enthusiastic response and arrange a time for the first respondent on each to get the stuff. I'm kind of expecting that people don't always show up when they say they will. My goal is to get rid of my first offerings tonight and then put up a couple more.

I am curious what interest a "box of worthless junk" post would attract too, especially if it had no other description. I'm guessing that might actually be turned down, but I'm not so confident that I'd be willing to try it. I could easily create such a box, but I'd be sad if someone actually agreed to come and collect it.
