All alone

Richard is on a week-long safari to Denver with his working partner Chuck to do a light show there. He left on Wednesday, expects to be back Tuesday night. Chuck is almost as old and gimpy as Richard is, and the van is at a similar stage of its life, so it's a little scary to send them off like that. Thorin just started a night job at Target, so when I came home from work on Wednesday NOBODY was here. I don't mind being alone, and in fact the three of us spend most of our time in different parts of the house even when we're all here, but it was kinda spooky being in a big house all by myself all night.

Houses make so many noises that one subconsciously attributes to the activity of other people, or pets. I remember being really spooked by some creaking when everybody else was gone and all the cats were sitting and looking at me.

Yup. It's better when I notice odd sounds and one cat is out of my sight, then I can attribute it to the cat.

I'd never really noticed the odd sounds in this house 'til this weekend with Kevin gone. Well, I've noticed them sometimes, but when Kevin is here, I'd just ask him "what's that noise?" or "is that normal?" and he'd reassure me as he's lived here for 15 years and is familiar with how the house sounds.
