It's my birthday!

dreamsharkI just wish I weren't coming down with a cold. Bleahh. Not really sick, but feeling like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
And my period started yesterday. Which means that, by the little-known actual definition of menopause, I will be a minimum of 57 when it arrives. I have mixed feelings. I was certainly in no rush to get there. I think it's kind of cool that my body is apparently aging slowly. But it's starting to seem a little ... weird. Like maybe I'm not actually from this planet after all. On the other hand, my mother told me she thought she was 58 when she reached menopause (and I wondered if she was remembering wrong. Silly me. My mother never remembers wrong.) Pay attention, Amber, honey. You may be interested in these factoids someday.
On the plus side, that gives Modern Medical Science one more year to find a cure for cardiovascular disease before I move into the demographic where it's likely to affect me. Get a move on, Modern Medical Science!! I was expecting more progress by now!

Date: 2005-09-05 07:04 pm (UTC)I used to belong to a menopause support group -- though it was really a perimenopause support group, since most people actually in menopause felt fine -- and there were a number of women there still menstruating merrily away in their fifties. It's not "average" but it's normal enough.
