So last Thursday she pulled herself to stand for the first time.

On Friday she figured out how to go from tummy to sitting up all by herself.

On Monday she learned how to crawl. Adorable video here. I particularly like the skeptical looks she gives her mother as she encourages her to just "go get that toy."  (Surely you jest. That thing must be a good 10, 12 inches away!)

And byTuesday, the world is pretty much her oyster. Her parents better get going with that baby-proofing.

Love the crawl video! What a little go get 'em girl is Lena.

I could almost hear her thinking: "Well, if you think so, Mom...I'll give it a try just for you."

Although "baby trying to crawl" is always a youtoob win, what I really love about that video is the mother-daughter connection. Starting with the fact that 7-month-old Lena obviously understands what Mommy is telling her to do. She isn't even babbling consonants yet, but is starting to understand language.

Of course most of the communication is at the body-language level. One of the things that makes Lena so much fun is her super-expressiveness. You CAN almost hear her thinking...

That's almost walking! But no surprise, she's been ready to use those legs since birth.

It's true, she suddenly looks like a toddler instead of a cute little fish out of water. But there's actually a pretty long row to hoe between standing up and walking - 3-4 months if I remember correctly. Thorin was pulling to stand at about this age (7 months), but didn't take his first steps until he was nearly 11 months old.

But she'll probably start cruising along the furniture as soon as she figures out how to control her foot muscles. It's hard to see in this picture, but if you blow it up you can see that she still has her toes curled under and is balancing awkwardly on the side of her foot. She has to learn how to balance solidly on the soles of her feet before she can go anywhere. It's amazing how many tiny sub-skills are involved in each one of these baby milestones.
