This is not a picture of paint splatters. It is a picture of dried up rain drops (from yesterday, presumably) on a shiny metal table. There are similar yellow raindrop marks on nearby glass table tops. WTF? No wonder my asthma is acting up!

Here in Massachusetts, the yellow pollen comes from pine trees with air bladders. Actually, it's the pollen that has the air bladders, not the trees themselves, which I just learned tonight. The pollen is so large that it's apparently rarely an allergen, but it damn near did me in the first two years I lived here. The third year, I was in the midwest during the pertinent weeks in May, and ever since it's been like my body finally figured out how to cope with it.

I found other references to the yellow pine tree pollen in east coast states (mostly North Carolina) but no references in the midwest. Might be a kind of pine that is less common here. We have no pines in our yard, but there is a HUGE pine in a yard across the alley and 2 houses down, so it might be that.
