Just had my first Festival of Evolution. Cracked open a Lucky Egg (which doubles earned XP for 30 minutes) and started frantically evolving baby Pokemon. I evolved about 40 critters. Mostly worthless Urban Vermin, but also got a few evolutions that I had been saving up for on more valuable critters. The star of the show was a duck that unexpectedly evolved into the most powerful battle Pokie in my menagerie.

But the real payoff for this was the XP. Normally you get 500 XP for evolving a Pokie. Double, it really adds up! I leveled up from 14 to 15. Then to 16. And ended up at Level 17!

I'm so glad to know that you're enjoying this game! It's great fun. Niantic is not big on publishing guides because it encourages online discussion on strategy. There is lots of great stuff available now that the game has been out for a while.

I wish I had figured out earlier to save stardust. Don't power up anything until you have lots and lots - I've wasted stardust on powering up inferior Pokemon.

Thanks. I haven't used any stardust yet. I have about 66,000. I was waiting until I had at least one Battle Pokie that showed actual promise.

I have high hopes for that duck I upgraded today which suddenly became my most powerful Pokie: CP 802, with a "Hydro Pump" attack of 90. I renamed him GrayDuck, because whatever he is he certainly isn't GOLD. And because I come from Duck-Duck-GrayDuck land, as opposed to Duck-Duck-Goose. My Imaginary Team Leader is gaga over him, calling him "a wonder" and "breathtaking" and "incredible!" So maybe he will be worth powering up eventually. How do you decide?

Here's what the appraisals mean.

So, you want high HP, appraisals, and enough stardust to power up to high CP. Getting one is a crapshoot, so your GreyDuck is probably worth the effort. Having some good ones for battle is a good idea, too.

It is yet unknown how size of a Pokemon is related to its potential. My suspicion is that some types of Pokemon are best very small and some are best very big.

Thank you; I have been failing to search for that.

I am so confused by the term "IV," which gains absolutely no clarity when expanded to "Individual Value"

It's not worth a lot of mental energy. Sometimes, Pokemon tends to be a game of magical bullshit that just is that way because it is.
