That does seem to be the lesson to be learned from this. Plus, the value of looking twice at things we tend to take for granted.

Well, you could take that moral from it. If you want to be the kind of person that ends up dealing with all the bodies found hanging from trees in your neighborhood. Personally, I'd take this as an example of how much happier we'd all be if we DIDN'T look too closely at things.

It's a judgment call: whether you'd feel worse discovering it right away or knowing that it had been there all along while you passed it by.
