I am temporarily subscribed to Hulu so that I can watch Season 3 of The Good Place without having to wait 18 months. Annoyingly, NBC has managed to stretch a 10-episode series over 3 months, so this is lasting longer than expected. But thanks to Amex Offers, I am getting it for $1/month until March, which should be long enough to get to Episode 10.
In the meantime, I found a couple of things to watch that I think I would categorize more as guilty pleasures than great shows, but both of them are seductive enough that I'm continuing to watch them. The first one is Killing Eve: a gorgeously produced show about the World's Worst Spies (and no, it is not supposed to be a comedy. It's more of a thriller.) It's gorgeous to look at with fantastic sound design, globe-trotting locales, great clothes, impeccable pacing, and a bunch of spies that are dumb as a box of rocks. I'm not all that impressed with Sandra Oh, but Jodie Comer, the young actress that plays the international assassin, is compelling.
The other one is This is Us. I've only seen 2 episodes, which is too soon to tell if it is actually a good show or if it's just going to turn into a pile of sentimental twaddle. The first two episodes were surprisingly good, although definitely leaning hard on the emotional manipulation buttons. If you decide to watch it, just watch the pilot without reading about it first.
