I finally got a Where's George bill! I've heard about them, but never seen one before. I wonder how common they are? Have you ever seen one? If so, did you log it?

Well, I don't think I've gotten one, because I have no idea what they are. Explain to this ignorant mass, please?

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/ - you fill in a $1 bill series indicator and serial number. If this bill has been entered before, you can see where it was entered. It is customary to put "www.wheresgeorge.com" on a bill when you enter it.

IIRC, [livejournal.com profile] barondave & [livejournal.com profile] jiawen have - at least occasionally - started bills.

AH! Yes! I've done that. Sorry I didn't get the reference.

I haven't, but maybe [livejournal.com profile] barondave has.

I think I just had one yesterday. They're the one dollar bills stamped with a smiley face and a url where one can see where the bill was before, right?

yup. If you want to be a good guy and play along, go to http://www.wheresgeorge.com/ and enter the serial# and zipcode where you found it. It's quick and easy and you don't have to register to do that.

If you want to see where your bill has been, I think you have to register (quick and free). I did, and discovered that my bill was started here in Minneapolis by some guy with the entirely appropriate nom-de-post "Crazy Georger" who claims to have started 10,000 bills!!

So my bill is a little baby yet. I'd better get it back in circulation so it can expand its horizons.

Humph. Neither of the bills I gave to shipmates on the Endeavour have appeared yet. If I remember who they are, I'll bug 'em. I've entered a bill from someone else, but it was my first one and I didn't write it down. Passed it along at a MN-STF meeting.

Technically I believe you are in violation of the wheresgeorge "rules." You aren't supposed to feed the bills to certain people to increase the drama; you're supposed to just spend the bills without regard to whether they are marked bills or not.

Perhaps, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to pass the bills on to people who know what wheresgeorge.com is and might be more likely to enter in the number. If nothing else it raises awareness of the project. I'm one of the hundred monkeys.

Yup. Got 'em and logged 'em. Haven't started any since getting the appropriate stamp is too low on the priority list. Cheap entertainment, though. ^^

I've seen three. I've logged each one, and made sure to use it in another city. Thre's someone in Minneapolis who is making them, as one of the bills I found started here.

I've gotten a few, but have lacked either motivation, time, or to remember to actually log it in. I think that I tracked one of them once, to see where it has been, if thats what you mean.
