Christmas in Portland

Richard and I spent over a month in Portland helping with the babies. Flew out on Thanksgiving, home on Dec 30. Thorin held down the fort at home, but flew out for 5 days to join us for our first family Christmas away from home. It was a little crowded, but we managed to fit in all our usual family things. 

 

Christmas eve: Oyster stew and latkes (but this time we used frozen latkes from Trader Joe's to simplify things). Christmas carols a capella, and a reading of The Night Before Christmas. And a huge annoying Christmas puzzle that filled up one of the two main horizontal spaces in the living room for days (for some reason, everybody but me thinks this is an indispensable part of our Christmas celebration). And everybody gets to open one present. 

 

Christmas day: stockings before breakfast (only Lena this year. Amber has finally accepted the fact that as a mother of three she is now too old for a stocking). Pancakes for breakfast. Then an orgy of present opening, followed by trying to clean up the mess and playing with our presents the rest of the day. 

 

It all went swimmingly.

NOTE: this seems a bit late for a Christmas post, but Dreamwidth's "post image by email" function has been broken for a week or two and I refuse to edit my posts in HTML. I finally opened a support ticket and they quickly fixed the problem. Am I the only person on the planet that uses this feature? It's the easiest possibly way to post pictures from a phone (when it works, which is kind of intermittent).

I don't use it. Maybe I should. The editing thing is not great either.

It's pretty easy if you set up a keyboard shortcut for the complicated Secret Address that you have to send the email to. Just select one or more pictures from iPhone photo for sharing, select email, and send them to that secret address. I use size "Medium." If the feature is working, a new entry with the pictures in it should pop up almost immediately. I usually edit it on my computer to add text, using the rich text editor.
