Giant Babies
Jan. 14th, 2020 03:15 pmThe twins had their 2-month checkup today. Rounded to the nearest pound, they are both 10 pounds, meaning they have approximately doubled their birth weights in two months (for context, the average full term baby doubles its birth weight in 5 months). No wonder their parents are running ragged. If you've ever watched a pair of barn swallows trying to keep a nest full of babies full of gnats (or whatever tiny thing barn swallows eat) you know the feeling.
Leo, the one that is always hungry, is almost 10-1/2 pounds! That puts him at the 9th percentile for weight, which doesn't sound impressive until you realize that both of them were below the first percentile at birth (due to being 6 weeks early). Using their "adjusted age" they are at the 69th and 79th percentile for weight. Harris is growing at a very respectable rate, but Leo's growth curve appears to be accelerating, which is both gratifying to the poor little parent swallows who have been feeding them and a little frightening.
