Well, hello, IMDB FreeDive!
Jan. 23rd, 2020 06:40 pmDo you have Amazon Prime? Do you watch movies and shows on Prime Video? I just noticed that there's a new feature in Prime Video, kind of hidden away at the bottom. Apparently it's been there for a year, but I never heard about it or noticed it. Then I googled "Warehouse 13" for some reason and learned that I can watch it for free on this... new thing.
Apparently Amazon has owned IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base) since 1998, and finally decided to try to do something Amazon-like with it. So it's a Hulu-like service where you can watch a limited selection of movies and old TV shows for free with ads. Yet, oddly, the first thing I tried had no ads in it at all. Which is a good thing, because it was the first episode of the old "Bewitched" TV show, and I'm not sure my attention to that show would have survived even one commercial.
It's not particularly easy to find things to watch on this service, and it looks like movies move in and out of free status frequently. I found a website purporting to tell me the 21 best movies to watch on it for free, and only a few of the movies listed were still free. But still... not a lot to lose here. Most of the movies are ones I have never heard of, but there are a few classics: Memento, Catch Me If You Can, Funny Girl, LaLa Land. And of course there's Bewitched. And Warehouse 13, which I haven't actually tried but is the show that started me down this rabbit hole.
Please let me know if you have found anything worth watching on Freedive!
ETA: Richard and I watched the first episode of Warehouse 13, and it was fun. Remember that warehouse where the Ark of the Covenant ended up at the end of the Indiana Jones movie? Well, if they made an X-Files inspired TV series about THAT WAREHOUSE, this series would be it. The commercials are pretty irritating, though. There are at least as many of them as on Hulu, but there were only 4 or 5 different commercials assigned to this episode and they played them over and over and over and over. It was enough to inspire me to find the mute button on the TV remote. Sheesh.

Date: 2020-01-24 09:35 am (UTC)Warehouse 13 is a lot of fun! I didn't watch the whole series, but I know people who did.
You might try Corner Gas, a half-hour comedy from Canada that I've heard good things about. Or there's Leverage, the hour-long caper series. For British mysteries, Case Histories was good; based on the Kate Atkinson book, and starring Jason Isaacs.
