Anybody else going CRAZY right now?

I'm that person who always has a Plan B, but so far I have been mostly unable to even think about what will happen and what I should do if Trump wins. I haven't got any further than realizing that I should accelerate my mostly inadequate efforts to start getting rid of some of the vast amount of extra Stuff in my life that makes it impossible to ever go anyplace else. Because even if there were somewhere to flee to, I really can't do that without setting the house on fire or something. 

Thank goodness when I made up my pandemic playlist I also put together a large playlist of soothing songs call "All Shall Be Well Again." I just remembered that it was there, and started it up. Helps a little. Although "Don't Worry, Be Happy," is quite a stretch at the moment.

I'm not sure I always have a Plan B; I'm more likely to spend my time worrying about not having one, and sometimes I'm not even sure about Plan A. But yes. This.

Since I have a survivalist streak, I have thought about this also. And as far as I can figure, besides stocking non-perishables in the house and having a battery-powered radio, there's not much to do. I already did that for the pandemic. We're not very good survivalists, but if the water, power, natural gas, phone and internet were all cut off, and the grocery stores all closed, we would be fine here for a month at least.

If Trump wins (or steals the election), what good would fleeing do? Flee to where? If I were in a red state, I might consider fleeing to a blue state, maybe, but I'm already in a blue state. (And even that doesn't make much sense.)

I have considered the possibility that a Trump win, or a protracted dispute about who won, might cause other world powers to launch an attack on us. This also doesn't make a lot of sense. Why attack when we are busy destroying ourselves? Why physically attack if they can just let our economy continue to slide, buy up our companies, and profit? Heck, a physical attack with troops on the ground would be more dangerous for them than for us; they'll all get COVID.

I gotta admit, I would feel more comfortable if I had a go-bag packed, but I would also feel foolish with a go-bag packed. Where am I going to, and under what scenario? Hard to come up with a plausible case.

I'm not talking about go-bag stuff, I mean long term. Frankly, I don't want to live in the country that history will look back on as just like the country that voted Hitler into office and somehow didn't see it coming. I like living in a democracy.

Ironically enough, considering the snarky jab in my preceding paragraph, the country I might consider fleeing to is Germany. I mean, Canada would be fine, but I don't think they really want to take in a bunch of American. I have a brother who lives in a huge remodeled brick farmhouse in northern Germany. I don't know how Germany feels about middle-class immigrants, but they have a lot of empty land and even empty houses just over the old East German border that they might like to fill up.

And modern day Germans are not at all shy about making the Hitler comparison that most Americans are embarrassed to bring up, even now. They say things like, "Look, he's TELLING YOU EXACTLY WHAT HE'S GOING TO DO. Have you learned nothing from Hitler?"

I'm not sure how eager any country is going to be to take Americans if there's no particular connection. Sounds like you have one, at least.

The biggest problem with fleeing to Canada, who is relatively good about accepting refugees, is they would likely be next. Global warming will be making a large swath of the USA less habitable plus it is always a good distraction to have someone else to loot. Once the US government is fully fascist, then there is no moral issues (from their point) of invading Canada for resources and fresh water. Plans have been forwarded since the 1950s, seeking to export Canadian water south*. Much safer than attacking Russia or China and it creates a outlet for all the arms the US manufactures.

The US has tried to invade Canada before and somehow it never worked. Did you know that MINNESOTA launched its own attack on Canada in 1871?

I like your confidence that as global warming marches on, Canada will gradually become the most valuable real estate on the planet.

I did not know that about Minnesotans or was this part of the Finean Raids? I knew they happened but didn't know they were this far west.

No, it was part of the amazing saga of Lord Gordon Gordon, a Gilded Age con man. He is best known for successfully swindling Jay Gould, the railroad baron (which was eventually his downfall). But along the way he made a stop in Minnesota, where he bamboozled some of our most prominent citizens - an array of wealthy and powerful men known to Minnesotans today as street names. Eventually he skipped to Canada, pursued by the indefatigable Pinkertons hired by a furious Jay Gould. But it was a posse of prominent Minnesotans, backed up by an angry Minnesota militia, that marched across the border determined to perform a citizen's extradition. The Minnesotans ended up in jail in Canada on charges of attempted kidnapping. The Minnesota militia started off to rescue them. I don't think the Minnesota invasion actually made it to the border, but it took an intervention by the US President and Canadian PM to stop it. It's quite a story.
