What we aren't getting for Christmas

We were very sad to cancel the reservations to fly Amber and her family here for Christmas, of course. But as I looked around the house and tried to imagine how one would go about babyproofing it against not one but two energetic crawling babies, it was hard to envision things not going very very wrong. We can clean the floors and put baby locks on the kitchen cabinets, but that's just the start. We just have SO MUCH STUFF, and much of it is stacked or piled or stored or intentionally displayed on low tables and teetery shelves. There are 4 sets of stairs that would have to be blocked, and the new guest room in the attic has a low rail around the stairway hole that is just an invitation for the climbing baby (Leo) to hurtle over to his doom.
I thought "That's silly, we baby-proofed this place before and we could do it again," but then realized that isn't true. Although we have lived her for 35 years we have never kept a baby here. Amber was 2 when we moved in, which is old enough to understand limits, and Lena has been here every year EXCEPT the year when she was this age. This place may not be baby-proofable. So maybe it's just as well. sigh
