I am so relieved. And not just because my city probably won't be on fire tonight. If Chauvin had somehow walked away from this one I think it would have broken my heart. It doesn't exactly vindicate the tattered American justice system, but at least it puts some kind of floor under just how far we can sink. 

I would have been happy with any conviction, but guilty on all charges I didn't expect. Halleluiah! It couldn't happen to a more deserving sociopath.

I still remember the numb horror of the Philando Castile verdict. At least this wasn't a repeat of that.

Yesterday I ended up wandering around in a bunch of discussions by lawyers, and a majority of them thought the trial would end in a hung jury too, while the rest basically just said, It all depends on the jury and you can't actually predict what they'll do with much accuracy.

I thought such a speedy turnaround probably meant guilty on one count. I had NO IDEA.

I still remember my disbelief at the Rodney King verdict. Maybe we have improved a bit in almost thirty years. But not enough.
