In Morrowind, that is. Pantha finally saved up enough for her 2nd enchanted item - Amulet of Summon Scamp. She then took the long trip to Tel Baloney (or whatever it's called - some little fishing village), bought 21 Common Soul Gems from the trader there, and rented a room. In the privacy of her room, she summoned her little sidekick a dozen times and then cruelly murdered him, trapping his soul each time. The whole procedure took longer than I expected, what with having to sleep frequently to recharge the soul gem (but that's why I rented a room) and cashing them in with the Creeper is even more tedious. But now I have a guaranteed way to generate as much cash as I need to equip my character sufficiently to actually complete a quest!! Yay!

[livejournal.com profile] jiawen, what is your main character like? How did you get her past the early levels and into the good stuff? I suspect that it is a lot easier to be effective early with a mage or fighter.

Congratulations! (I wouldn't turn my back on that Pantha if I were you.) :)

Pantha is a pretty amoral individual. But it fits her background - she's a K'jheet, one of the so-called animal races. Looks like a big tiger. The animal races in Morrowind aren't treated very well. They have no political power and are commonly enslaved. And Pantha herself has had a hard life.

That's certainly understandable, but you still wouldn't want to be her little sidekick. :)

Bully for you! I've made my fortune in Oblivion by being a used arms salesman. As a fighting-type individual I scavange the arms and armor off my vanquished foes, use what's better than I have and sell the extra wherever I can. It was a bit slow-going at first, but a stint at the gladitorial arena increased my skills enough that it was easier to off a band or goblins or the odd bandit on the roads. Now I can easily grab a few thousand gold off a little trip to an infested cave complex or an ancient ruins.

I honestly don't specifically remember. Just taking a lot of quests, finishing a lot of jobs, slowly trying to clear out some caves and other nasty areas (Dwarven ruins can be very good at the beginning; lots of nice pieces of equipment and very valuable gems and other things)... Trying to get a complete set of glass armor took forever. [livejournal.com profile] jbru has the right idea, though. Use what's better, sell what's not, wash rinse repeat.

One good thing is to have a home to call your own. The way things work, people will never steal from your house (or at least they haven't with me). If you can eventually get a potion of Mark and some sort of unlimited-use Recall enchantment, this is hugely useful: you go out, fight some monsters, take their stuff, load up as fully as you can (Sujamma is wonderful for this -- makes you incredibly strong with very little loss of intelligence, and drinking multiple bottles has cumulative effects), hit the Recall enchantment and *poof* you're back home, safe and sound, with all your wonderful loot. I recommend a mod called "A nice place to stay". If you can't find it, I can find a way to get it to you. It's great -- huge (almost too big), with tons of space for all your equipment.

A nice place to stay

Oh, no problem with that. I already have a house in Balmora, conveniently located near shopping and guild headquarters, and a pied-a-terre in Caldera that I use when I visit the Creeper.

I'm not an assassin, you understand, but when somebody just attacks you because of a minor shoplifting incident, you have to defend yourself, right? And if the owner of the shop or house is lying on the floor dead... well, he's not going to need those nice clothes anymore. Or any of those other pretty things on the shelves. So, as it turns out, not having a sufficiently strong stealth power to pickpocket that key from Ondres Nerano without getting caught ... wasn't such a bad thing after all.

I was lucky enough to find a Mark Ring and Amulet of Recall very early in the game. I think I actually bought at least one of them in a shop. It's funny how cheaply merchants sell enchanted items, considering how expensive they are to enchant.

Seriously? You find this interesting? I was thinking of starting a separate lj for Pantha, partly to keep the gaming stuff in a separate venue to avoid boring the non-gamers to death. Would you befriend Pantha?

I never play comptuer games, but I'm interested in them. I consider myself a theoretical computer gamer.

I'd rather it be in your main journal, though.
