Working on it, even. I finally have the various brainstorming lists consolidated into one, and even in passable HTML format. The plan is to circulate it like mad - get as many people as possible to contribute ideas, improve on the ones that are there, and express enthusiasm for actually seeing some of these items on the Minicon 39 programming schedule. Or, better yet, express enthusiasm for participating in some of those items.

I'm trying to come up with email lists of appropriate people to send this to - both folks who have expressed interest in helping with planning programming, and possible participants. Our webmaster will be posting the list on the Minicon website in the near future. In the meantime, you can see it here. Please join in the fun!

I have to mention that Children of the Atom was written by Wilmar Shiras.

Who, I was surprised to find out (after lo, these many years), is female.

This information courtesy of the signed(!) copy of the book Geri gifted me with recently...

I'm quite interested in hearing more about this -- since I've been an X-Men fan for a long, long time, and it's tagline has frequently been "Children of the Atom" I was a bit amazed to discover that it came from somewhere else.

One of us should loan you the book, if only to find out if it has the same kind of impact on the younger folks as it had on people like Sharon and me.

It's possible that I read the book at just the right age for maximum impact. It's a book I've never forgotten, and when it came back into print, I had to buy it.

But I never really associated the X-Men with the book, even though I started reading the X-Men comics from about their beginning until I gave up comics altogether.

I'd certainly be interested in reading it.

I don't know off the top of my head when "Children of the Atom" was first attached to the X-Men. It was always there for me, but it possibly first appeared in the mid-to-late 1970s with the launch of the then-New X-Men.

Sharon: Jordin and I are both planning on being there. He's always good on science stuff and I've got moderating experience. I moderated the Tolkien panel last year -- it was a dynamite panel -- not because I was moderating. Since all three of the films will be out by then you might want to consider some sort of discussion of the film project as a whole. Have the Lady Poetesses ever discussed Tolkien's poetry? That might be an interesting panel.

I loved the Tolkien panel! Thought you made an awesome moderator.

Doesn't Jordin like play music and stuff too? Might he have some suggestions for music panels?

Why, thank you very much.

Yes Jordin does do music stuff, but pretty much strictly filk...

I like both ideas, either together or separately: the Lady Poetesses doing a panel, and a panel on the poetry of Tolkien. I mentioned the latter to Richard, and he pointed out that Tolkien's "poetry" is always presented as songs, although finding a melody is left as an exercise for the reader. We have always been very fond of Sam's song about the troll, set to the tune of "The Fox." I thought the first movie made excellent use of the song about the road going ever on and on, set to a tune of their own devising. Anybody know any tunes for any of the others?

Where is the great idea I told you about 3 or 4 thousand times? About the nature of celebrity or something. How to talk to famous people, etc. I disremember it now, and it really was a good idea.

With at least one New York editor (if not two or three), some panels on editing and publishing seem like a good idea.

You may want to contact Michael B. about Sharyn's druthers. I know she thinks getting put together in a room with a bunch of YA readers is like a slice of heaven.

My next step is to send this list to all the GOHs and ask them for their ideas. Maybe should add one for Sharyn along the line of a round-table with Sharon and YA fans?
