Calling all gardeners and botany geeks

Anyone know what this is? Richard and I dug it out of the yard in Portland on the suspicion that it was some variety of nightshade.

I don't know what it is, but I thought "nightshade" before I read that you guessed that too. I just remember accidentally growing nightshade instead of whatever vegetable I planted in a pot inside one spring.

I didn't notice any smell. What part of the plant should smell?

I think it's most likely Bittersweet Nightshade, but it doesn't exactly match any of the (mostly blurry) photos I've found. It would be easier to tell if we knew what the flower looked like, but nobody in this household was paying attention when it flowered.
