Halloween was fine after all

The weather started out very discouraging, but once the mushy snow tapered off, the usual crowd turned out. Richard handed out over 700 pieces of candy - a new record! He was a little cold and tired but very happy.

I'm very glad you got a good turnout. I just turned off all the front lights, I wasn't up for handing stuff out. Also I we don't need the leftover candy; fortunately I made this decision before buying any candy. Three or four houses on the other side of the street had flashing jack-o-lanterns, orange lights leading the way up to the porch, and so on, and I did see three raucous groups of costumed kids making good use of those, so our block wasn't a complete disappointment.

It sure was windy, though; and I'm glad Richard had an umbrella.

We actually had a small impromptu party going on inside, including delicious takeout from Peninsula, but Richard had already set up outside at 5pm while it was still drizzling and would not come in, despite the lack of trick or treaters. So we brought him an umbrella, a little table, and a bowl of food and just left him there. I think the early trick or treaters started trickling in about 5:45, and by 7pm had hit flood stage.
