Hard Core Biker
Jul. 21st, 2006 12:06 pmNot only did I ride to work today, I rode IN THE RAIN. Not very much rain, to be sure. Mostly just enough drizzle to make me wish I had those windshield-wiper glasses that you used to see in cartoons, sometimes even less than that. Even more impressive, I didn't take any breaks along the way, except for about 30 seconds of stretching at the halfway point. I made it in about an hour and a quarter, which is probably the best I'm ever going to do. I was riding kinda slow even for me, but had good luck at road crossings that made up a lot of time. The light was actually green when I arrived at Lake Street!
I was entertained for about half the trip with a podcast about The Cash Cab - an actual functioning New York taxi cab that has a continual game show running inside it. Passengers win money during their trips by answering trivia questions, but if they flub 3 questions they are kicked out of the cab and have to find another ride. You could tell it was New York. Contestants were missing questions like "What breed of horse does Budweiser use in its ad campaign?" by a country mile ("Stallions? Is that a breed of horse?") but getting questions like "Which borough used to be an autonomous city before it was annexed by New York City?"
