Ack! My monitor!!!
Nov. 24th, 2006 11:30 pmMy big, beautiful 21" Dell monitor!! Yesterday it was fine. Today...it's all wiggly around the edges. Very wiggly. Getting worse by the minute. I don't think it's long for this world. How can this be? It's only... um... 6 years old? Yikes. Anybody got a monitor to give away?

Date: 2006-11-25 05:36 am (UTC)Probably. There is an extra here in the office right now, I need to first make sure that it isn't already spoken for somewhere else in the house. I will probably know by tomorrow night or so, assuming that I remember to ask.
If not,

Date: 2006-11-25 06:50 pm (UTC)6 years is a good life for a monitor. My 21" was in the 6 to 8 range, and I feel it's lasted longer than I really had a right to count on.
I'm experimenting with a (sort-of graphics grade) LCD to replace the big monitor, and it's not too bad, though it's certainly not as good as the monitor was. But it's a $300 19" LCD, not the $500 or $800 19" LCDs, which are better. A lot better than the $150 19" you see at Best Buy, though.

Date: 2006-11-25 07:06 pm (UTC)And in the 21" range, I'd be shocked if the vertical resolution was less than 1500 or 1280 at the very least -- and the best HD TV resolution is only 1080, and that's mostly found on MUCH bigger (and pricier) displays.
