I know you all thought I was kidding when I said I was "improving" my keyboard drawer with a hacksaw, and nobody was more surprised than I when it actually worked! The object in question is a sturdy plastic box that the monitor sits on with a keyboard drawer that slides out of it. The new keyboard actually fits inside the enclosing box; it was just a fraction of an inch too wide for the drawer. So I cut down the sides of the drawer, covered the ragged edges with black duct type, and then set the keyboard into it. At first it looked like a failure. The keyboard was all wobbly and canted over backwards (who remembers Earth Shoes?). But when I opened up the fold-down LCD panel at the top, a miracle happened! The LCD panel balanced neatly on the top edge of the monitor stand, the bottom edge of the keyboard happily seated itself against the slots I'd cut in the sides, and suddenly the keyboard was rock solid and tilted at exactly the right angle!!

Then I faced a chicken-egg problem with the installation. The instructions said to install the keyboard software first, then plug in the USB port when prompted. But I couldn't login to the computer with the keyboard not working! So I had to plug in the old keyboard again, install the software, then plug in the new one.

Why, you may be asking yourself, does a keyboard have its own installation disk and an LCD screen? Well, because it's a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard. The keys really do glow in the dark with a beautiful blue light. Not only that, the B key works just fine.

Good job on the remodel! I love it when a thing turns out right. Sounds like a nifty keyboard. I just ordered a bunch of components to build (read: have son build for me) a new PC and now I get to design my new workstation (that dear hubby will build). I feel like I am about to build a new kitchen. I am trying so hard to get it right the first time...

But the room it is in is now a beautiful shade of calm, dark blue. It is possible that I could get very addicted to computing in there.

Yay! Glowing keyboard! I'll have to see this next time I'm over. :)
