Bad news
  • Spent 7 hours sitting in a high school gym and still couldn't manage two endorsements for at-large school board positions
Good news
  • There were 7 good candidates for at-large school board slots (which is probably why we had so much trouble picking just two).
  • It was raining all morning any way, and unpleasantly humid after that, so it wasn't like I was missing a great weekend.

Richard Mammen was endorsed on the second ballot. After 5 ballots it was pretty much a dead heat between T. Williams (the only incumbent who is even running again) and David DeGrio for the second slot. Coincidentally, those were my top three picks of the 7 running. I was also impressed by Chanda Smith-Baker and Muhammed Noor.

There was no Doug Mann.

The whole damned school board is quitting? Has this made the news?

Actually, that may not quite be true. All of the school board that would have been up for reelection this year declined to run again. I think there are a couple more incumbents that were NOT up for election this year, and they are hanging in there.

And yes, the Strib does cover this stuff, although not always on the front page.
