For the last 3-6 months, I've been boringly focused on pretty much 3 things (not counting work, which comes and goes in terms of the amount of attention it requires):

  • Rehabilitating my back - biggest health concern

  • Throwing things away - greatest sense of accomplishment (sad, but true)

  • Bento - new hobby  (combining food, shopping, collage art, and Internet community - what's not to like?)

In short, I've been in kind of a rut. So today, I decided to do something new. Exciting. Different. Go for it - shake up my life.

I decided to start parking on the other side of the building!  This changes the entire experience of arriving at work. And will no doubt have even more effect on the experience of leaving work, as I will have forgotten by then where I left my car.

Besides the sense of excitement, this will improve my life in a couple of ways.  Coming in a different door, I will now walk past the break room and mail room on the way to my desk, allowing me to stow my lunch in the fridge without having to make a special trip. Going home, I will walk right past the little workout room, making it easier to stop and do some stretches or even a little exercise. I will also go right past my bike, enabling me to make sure that it is still there and still has air in the tires.

Hmm. I just realized that this wonderful new direction in my life is in fact all related to the three bullet points above. Oh well, even if it's not exactly outside the box, at least it's a change.

Congrats on the change; it sounds like an advantageous one. I toyed with the idea of parking on the other side of the building while I worked at DQ, but didn't get around to it before the assignment ended - and there didn't seem to be any advantage to it.
