If you want something to ignore, go with Kaspersky. They're currently the best of the "set and forget" variety.
If you want to completely change how things work and are willing to invest both money and a bit of time, buy a Sophos UTM 110/120 device. Invite me over to help you set it up. Then we can hack it to allow you run the home license and you'll get a whole lot of firewall capabilities and centrally-managed AV for all Windows systems.
You can also run Sophos UTM home license on your own hardware, but I've found the hassle factor can be high with that.
