Think you have powerful google fu? Here's a challenge for you. See if you can find any place on the Internet the Top Secret information that the Minneapolis Parks Department doesn't want you to know. On what date do the park concession stands open in the spring?

Specifically, if you were riding your bike around Lake Harriet on a lovely spring day like today, would you be able to buy a beer and burger at The Bread and Pickle by the bandstand? How about The Tin Fish by Lake Calhoun?

WHY IS THIS A SECRET???

ETA. I actually know the answer because I biked around the lake today and noticed that someone had finally taped a piece of lined paper to the window with a hand-scrawled note announcing that they would be open on May 4 at 4pm. It appears that this is the sum total of opening day information that has been revealed to the public.

There are links to there individual websites here:
https://www.minneapolisparks.org/parks__destinations/food__drink/

I agree that the park board should find out the opening and closing days and put them on the link page.

Sea Salt, Sandcastle, and Tin Fish are all open already.

Bread and Pickle's website doesn't give their opening day, and the link to the menu says "Our menu will have 3 ‘seasons’ this summer: April/May, June/July, August/September, and change accordingly. If you have any menu requests, please email us!" and fails to list any menu items.

At this point I was invested so I called their phone number. The voice mail said to check Facebook. The most recent entry on their Facebook page is dated March 26th and says "Bread & Pickle is seeking a new General Manager. If you know anyone with high volume experience, please send them our way!"

That's funny. I'm always amazed at the pointless information that restaurants fill their websites with when the main thing that their customers really want to know is "Where are you located and when are you open?" I notice that the Bread and Pickle website is still claiming (after 5 years) that they are looking forward to their first summer of operation. Sheesh.

Similar to conventions' websites. People want to know the date and location. And probably how to pre-reg. Not a 100MB slideshow of people standing in hotel hallways.

Also college websites. What state is your school in? Shockingly difficult to find at times.

Where in your state IS your small town? Good luck with that.

Kim Bartmann is doing a terrible job with Bread and Pickle. The food is never hot, for one.

A few years back, there was a web page on the Minneapolis Park Board site of useful summaries of the most commonly useful park rules. What are the rules for controlling one's animals? What are the rules for where a person is allowed to smoke? What are the rules for setting up games involving thrown things in public spaces? What are the rules for alcohol consumption? I had a plan to link to that memorably useful page in the picnic information.

That page has been replaced by a link to the whole of Minneapolis City Ordinances for parks, in case anyone wants to first read all the information about molesting the vegetation, displaying a permit on a school bus, or the maximum size for an ice fishing hole (10").
