Our first "picnic meeting" of the year went off swimmingly at the Crosby Farm Park fire pit in St. Paul (Feb 26). Yes, we had an outdoor meeting in February in Minnesota. The weather was cooperative, with sunny skies and temps peaking in the low 30s. There was enough breeze off the river to make even the mild temps a little chilly, but some of us stuck it out for the whole 4 hours. Thanks to Matt for organizing it and to everyone who attended.

Think you have powerful google fu? Here's a challenge for you. See if you can find any place on the Internet the Top Secret information that the Minneapolis Parks Department doesn't want you to know. On what date do the park concession stands open in the spring?

Specifically, if you were riding your bike around Lake Harriet on a lovely spring day like today, would you be able to buy a beer and burger at The Bread and Pickle by the bandstand? How about The Tin Fish by Lake Calhoun?

WHY IS THIS A SECRET???

ETA. I actually know the answer because I biked around the lake today and noticed that someone had finally taped a piece of lined paper to the window with a hand-scrawled note announcing that they would be open on May 4 at 4pm. It appears that this is the sum total of opening day information that has been revealed to the public.
