The only thing I use ftp for is managing files on my hosted domain. I guess I haven't backed anything up to my website for quite a while, since I don't seem to have installed an ftp client on this computer.

I'm looking for something small, simple, and free for Windows 7. Apps I have used in the past include:  TYPsoft, WS_FTP LE, Filezilla. Anybody have a favorite to recommend?

FTP is highly insecure; I'm surprised your host still supports it. If you can, set up ssh and use SFTP or rsync; there's also an sftp client in putty. rsync lets you transfer an entire folder, in either direction, with a single command, and only transfers things that have changed since the last sync. Highly recommended.

curl is a good command-line client for single-file transfers that supports multiple protocols; it's most commonly used as an HTTP client.
