Richard off to St. Paul for vaccination

Well, Richard's off to the wilds of St. Paul to get his first vaccination. It really doesn't look too hard to find Regions Hospital. The trick will be figuring out where to go once inside that enormous medical complex. Somehow we are all nervous about this. I guess it's just been such a long wait for this vaccine to materialize that it's hard to imagine something won't go wrong.

As a St. Paulie, I'm like HOW COULD YOU NOT FIND REGIONS?? But, then I remembered that YOU have to cross the river. No wonder you're nervous.

I'm jealous. Here in Illinois the vaccine rollout has been inconsistent and slow. Both BB and I fit the requirement for getting vaccinated (65 and older, and existing medical conditions); I've put in applications with our health provider and with the city of Chicago (or possibly the state; I can't immediately remember now), but I've heard nary a whisper. I'm willing to wait, if I can be sure that black and brown seniors with existing conditions would get vaccinated. But I'm not hopeful on that front either.

It's inconsistent and slow everywhere. For one thing, no matter how good the implementation of the infrastructure and scheduling, there just isn't that much vaccine yet. I'm really not sure what the point was of telling 100 million people, "It's your turn to get vaccinated now!" when there were only 10 million doses available. It seems like a recipe for confusion and frustration.

Richard is ahead of you and me and BB in line because he is over 75. I'm fine with that, and I'm willing to wait a few weeks. It's just frustrating when you aren't sure if you are supposed to be DOING something, and you're not sure that anyone will contact you if you just wait.

Richard's appointment went fine, moved along briskly and he didn't feel crowded anywhere along the line. He got the Pfizer vaccine and they made him an appointment for Dose #2 in 3 weeks. The email confirmation for that appointment just arrived. Very efficient.
