I seem to be over last week's cold. I did cough for several days, which sometimes turns into winter-long asthma. But the cough seems to be fading away now, so with luck I'm okay for this year. Last week was a Week From Hell at work and I didn't get enough sleep. Friday morning I actually overslept, waking up at about the time I usually leave for work. I can't remember the last time that happened. Fortunately it didn't matter, as I was finished with the Linux class that had been rousting me out of bed early for most of the week. This weekend I slept at least 10 hours a night, which cuts into the weekend surprisingly. Yesterday was so beautiful that I spent a large part of it biking around aimlessly. Ostensibly I was going to yard sales, but I got started so late that they all pretty much closed down halfway through my ride. That's about all I did, though. My brain is still fuzzy from last week, and I didn't feel up to tackling my list of Important Stuff I Need to Do. Today I feel a little more alert, but it's again so pretty out there that I feel compelled to get out and enjoy the weather, not sit around trying to make sense out of my disordered finances or pulling up carpet.

Richard's no fun at all right now. His injured foot is getting better, but not good enough for biking. And now he's got my cold. I'd like to be nurturing, but people with colds are sort of disgusting, frankly. I go with the Golden Rule on this one. When I'm sick I want people to stay the hell away from me. I suspect that Richard prefers being taken care of (I dimly remember that it took a while to train him to stop being attentive when I was sick), but I've already been through this cold once and don't want to trudge through it again from third-person perspective.

Foot problem!

That jumped right out at me. Probably because Cari's Tom is having one at the moment too. Sigh. Sorry to hear that Richard is under the weather to a degree. The revolving illness trip is quite a drag. Good luck on having made it off that trolley.

Thanks. Feet are so complicated - worse than backs. Things just start to hurt, and there's usually no easy fix. Richard felt something crack while he was digging with a spade, and it ended up hurting so much he couldn't even put weight on it for days. It's getting better, but he's still hobbling around. He decided not to go to the doctor, mostly because the prospect of getting from the house to the car and from there to the doctor's office sounded like it would cause more harm than anything the doctor could do would make up for. About all you can do for either a cracked bone or a sprain is immobilize it and ice it.

We have the same gender divide here: when sick, I want to be left alone, but J prefers being taken care of. I mean, I like people to fetch me things I want, but if I could I'd like to have the things delivered through a small opening in the door, onto a shelf from which I could retrieve them--kind of like being in solitary in prison.

*heh*

I don't even want people to fetch things for me; I just don't want to have to interact with anybody. I suppose if I were sufficiently sick or hurt that I couldn't get out of bed I would like a little help, but I have never been that sick, thank goodness.

Well, yeah, I don't want to have to interact; I just want to signal my wishes in some way!

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. And sorry to hear that Richard isn't doing that well.

I'm still available if there's anything I can do to help out. Fetch groceries?

He's moving slowly, but he can walk now, so he should be fine. Thanks for offering.

You're welcome. I'm glad he's improving. I know how hard it is to get around on one foot, having twisted my ankle a few years back.
